An excerpt from a Howard Reig biography from 1957:

"Howard Reig, WRCA staff announcer, has spent fifteen years in radio and television, and in March of this year will celebrate his fifth anniversary with NBC.

Reig, winner of the last H.P. Davis award in 1949 -- given to an NBC announcer for creativeness, diction and versatility -- was born in New York City in 1921 but grew up in a small town near Albany.

After graduating from the University of the State of New York with a Bachelor's Degree in English and a Master's Degree in Education, Reig taught high school English for one year and was also Taxation Committee Clerk in the New York State Legislature.

In 1943 Reig joined station WGFM in Schenectady, where for eight years he was the Esso News Reporter and in addition had his own daily four-hour show of news, music, interviews and general service.

Reig, in the two years prior to coming to New York was chief announcer for station WRGB-TV in Schenectady where he nightly Chevrolet 11:00 P.M. news show, the NBC Weekly News Review and was master of ceremonies for several informational and public service programs and handled many commercial assignments.

Reig joined NBC in March, 1952. His current radio assignments include three daily newscasts, a weather, and a sports show and five hourly newscasts on Saturday in addition to Monitor interviews. His television assignments include the New York originations for "Meet The Press" and film commercials for General Electric."
