Dear Mr. Reig,
I am Ronald Brown, one of the many millions of people on the the
other side of the camara lens. As a child, I was riveted to the
TV, to watch John Chancellor (especially Apollo Missions), The Today
Show with Barbara Walters and Frank McGee and many other shows.
Off and on thoughout the years, I always wonder who the annoncer
was and what he looked like. Thanks to the MSNBC internet page,
my mystery is solved. I just wanted to tell you of the pleasure
it has been to listen to your calm, assuring voice--particuarily
if the news was late-breaking. Thanks to your management to allow
you to work with excellence, all these many years.
Enjoy your retirement and put plenty of sunblock on your skin (in
Florida)!
God Bless,
Ronald Brown
I understand that Howard Reig is retiring on This Friday. I am 63
and remember him well as a WRGB, America`s first television station,
announcer. His career began with the birth of the media. What a
wonderful human interest feature. Will you be mentioning him on
your telecast? Surely, he was a pioneer and what a great voice.
I never met the man but revere him greatly as he was so visible
in my youth. Thank you.
Bob Failing, Jr
Mr.
Reig, Congratulations on your great career. I had the pleasure of
working with you for a short time in the late 60s. I was a board
operator for WNBC Radio. A transplant from Cleveland with d.j. Charlie
Brown. I recall one afternoon when you dozed off during a local
news cast. (You were putting in some rather long days back then.)
When it came time for the sign-off, newsman Mike Maus simply nudged
you with his elbow and you picked up not missing a beat. I learned
a lot observing you the rest of the impressive NBC staff announcers.
I’ve been anchoring news here in Charleston, West Virginia…but,
I often think of those good old days. Enjoy your retirement!

Hi
Howard! I came across your web site and wanted to say “hello” and
thank you for all the fond memories I have from childhood, with
your visits to our home and listening to the news so we “can hear
Howard”! What better way to get a kid to be hooked on the news!
I hope you are enjoying your retirement and Florida and wish you
ALL the best! Love, Chris
More to come...
